Water Licensing
Hunter Water Corporation
Hunter Water Corporation (Hunter Water) provides water and wastewater services to the Lower Hunter. In addition, Hunter Water has infrastructure in place to provide treated water to the Gosford Wyong Water Supply Authority's reticulated water supply system. Hunter Water draws surface water from the Williams River catchment and Grahamstown Dam, and groundwater from the Tomago and Tomaree aquifers.
Hunter Water’s water licence package consists of a Part 9 Water Management Licence under the Water Act for the Williams River (Seaham Weir, Grahamstown Dam and Chichester Dam) and water access licences and combined works and use approvals under the Water Management Act 2000 for the Tomago and Tomaree aquifers.
The licence package contains rules for the operation of the Seaham Weir and the pumps that extract water from the weir pool, release requirements from Chichester Dam, and entitlements and access conditions to ensure the sustainable use of groundwater from Tomago and Tomaree aquifers. There are also detailed monitoring and reporting requirements for each of the groundwater sources and surface water storages in the areas where HWC operates. The licence package also has requirements for Hunter Water to undertake scientific investigations into the sustainable and equitable use of its groundwater and surface water entitlements.
