Water Licensing

Which Act applies?

Certain entitlements known as basic landholder rights apply across New South Wales. Apart from these basic rights, licences and approvals are governed by the Water Management Act 2000 or the Water Act 1912.

Areas of the state where water sharing plans have commenced are covered by the Water Management Act 2000.

For more information on the water sharing plans click on the relevant area of the map or select the relevant water management area from the list below. Note that water sharing plans may occur in more than one water management area.

You can also go to a DWE register to check if your Water Act 1912 licence has been converted to a Water Management Act 2000 licence and approval.
