Water Management
Groundwater monitoring
Groundwater is an important natural resource in NSW. Groundwater is a source of drinking water for many rural towns, is used for industrial needs such as mining, the domestic and stock requirements of farms or remote households and communities and for irrigation.
Many decades of exploratory drilling and bore construction by the NSW government and the gathering and maintenance of drilling records for thousands of private bores has contributed to an enormous volume of information and knowledge about the groundwater resources of NSW.
The Department of Water and Energy is responsible for the ongoing collection and management of this information, and manages the State's Groundwater Data Base. The Department also continues to add to its network of groundwater observation bores, which is used to monitor changes to groundwater levels and water quality over time.
NSW groundwater data archive reports provide preformatted reports containing information about licensed water bores, wells and excavations. Please note there is a slight delay while this application is loading.
